Prior to filing your lawsuit, please follow the following steps.

Step 1: Is there jurisdiction in federal court for your claim?

Federal courts are courts of limited jurisdiction. Therefore, if your lawsuit is based entirely on Nevada state law claims (such as a breach of contract claim or a personal injury claim), before your lawsuit can be filed in the Federal District Court of Nevada, you must first determine if there is “jurisdiction” over your claims in federal court.

Press the “jurisdictional checklist” button and you will be taken to a list of questions to determine if the federal court has jurisdiction over your claims.

If, after filling out the “jurisdictional checklist” form, you believe the federal court does have jurisdiction over your claims, proceed to Step 2.
