Judge Miranda M. Du was nominated by President Barack Obama and took the oath of office on April 23, 2012.

Judge Du was born in Viet Nam and left with her family by boat when she was eight years old. Judge Du and her family immigrated to the United States and ultimately settled in Oakland, California. Judge Du graduated with honors in History and Economics from the University of California, Davis. She obtained her JD from the University of California, Berkeley, Berkeley School of Law in May 1994.
