The United States District Court for the District of Nevada is seeking qualified candidates for a temporary Pro Se Staff Attorney in Las Vegas or Reno, Nevada.  The temporary position has an anticipated ending date of September 30, 2020 and a potential for an additional one-year renewal. 

The Pro Se Staff Attorney provides legal assistance to the Court and assists in the management and disposition of prisoner civil-rights and non-capital habeas corpus cases.  Responsibilities include drafting proposed orders, performing merits review, screening complaints, making recommendations to the court, and keeping abreast all relevant authority affecting these practice areas including AEDPA and the PLRA.

The successful candidate must be graduate of an accredited law school and an efficient, organized, and detail-oriented self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks in a timely and efficient manner and work in a team environment.  Exceptional legal research and writing skills and at least one year of prisoner civil rights experience or federal habeas experience as an attorney or law clerk are also required.
