PENDING RETIREMENT OF MAGISTRATE JUDGE VALERIE P. COOKE

The United States District Court for the District of Nevada announces that, after 18 years of dedicated service to the Court, United States Magistrate Judge Valerie P. Cooke will be retiring on July 31, 2018. Judge Cooke has diligently served as a Magistrate Judge in the District of Nevada since 1999. She developed the Inmate Early Litigation Mediation Program in the District of Nevada in 2007. She also founded CLEAR (Court Lead Effort at Recovery) Court in 2011. Judge Cooke was president of the Bruce R. Thompson Chapter of the American Inn of Court from 2008-2009, and was co-chair of the Ninth Circuit Corrections Summit in 2015. She served as both chair and member of the Ninth Circuit's Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee from 2001-2013, and served on the Federal Magistrate Judges Executive Committee. In addition, Judge Cooke has hosted international visitors to the Court and her home through the Northern Nevada International Center and the U.S. State Department. The Court extends its gratitude to Judge Cooke for excellent years of service to the federal judiciary and to the community.
